Navdeep means nine lamps. Eight small cups are carved into the petals of this Banswara white marble lotus, around a brass insert at the centre. Fill the cups with ghee or oil and cotton wicks, set a tealight in the middle, and nine flames burn together from one piece. On days you are not lighting it, the cups hold flowers, rice or kumkum.

Hand-carved from natural stone, so veining and tone vary from piece to piece and no two diyas are exactly alike.

Uses & occasions

Nine flames from one piece — eight ghee cups around a central tealight.

  • Navratri: light one more flame each night, or all nine on the last.
  • Diwali, Lakshmi pooja and Ganesh Chaturthi aarti.
  • Griha pravesh and special family poojas where a single diya feels too small.
  • On days you are not lighting it, the cups hold flowers, rice, kumkum or akshat.
  • A memorable festive or housewarming gift.
Care
  • Let the diya cool fully before cleaning.
  • Clear ghee or oil from the cups while it is still slightly warm, then wipe with a soft cloth.
  • Wipe spills off the petals the same day — white marble is porous and can absorb oil and kumkum stains.
  • Never use lemon, vinegar, bathroom cleaners or scrubbers on marble; they dull the surface.
  • The brass insert will darken naturally with use. Clean it in place with a soft cloth; for extra shine, use a little brass cleaner or pitambari on the brass only, keeping it off the marble.
